Walkin' in a winter wonderland...

Oh the weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful...and since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....
Well, this morning I woke up to...more snow! Not much mind you, but enough snow and ice for me not to be able to get off my street this morning. The library system was closed yesterday, due to weather conditions (which didn't turn out all that bad yesterday), so I did not have to go to work yesterday. Instead, I spent the day making a last minute grocery stop at Fred Meyer, doing a bit of Christmas shopping and then doing a lot baking and cooking, just trying out some new recipes, and making dinner for my family. On Tuesday morning, before work, my mom and I went to Federal Way to Trader Joes and Marlene's (two great health food stores :) and I was able to stock up on everything I needed to pretty much make anything I need for my limited diet :P I have to start doing a rotation diet, just so my digestive system can heal up well without becoming sensitive to foods I eat a lot of. So, I will be eating a wide variety of foods, hence, the needed grocery run! So yesterday (Wednesday) was quite a glorious day...getting to sleep in for a little while, getting to do quiet time with a beautiful scene out my window, reminding me of God's faithfulness. And just being able to get a few errands done and take all the time I wanted in the kitchen was quite nice :) And, I even got to re-organize my allergy free pantry, which was on my to-do list.
Then, this morning, I received a call from a co-worker saying unfortunately the library is open today, although conditions are worse today than yesterday! I am normally not scheduled to work on Thursdays, but I was going to take the place of someone today and work 9-4:30. Well, due to the usual bad conditions we get here in Bonney Lake in this sort of weather, they told me that if I couldn't make it in to work, I didn't have to come in. So my dad and I were out at 7 this morning testing the roads by my house in my dad's car...it was sheer ice, and it was so bad we had to turn back before even making it to the really bad roads! So, alas, I am home again today, instead of trying to drive to South Hill for work, but luckily, I get paid for snow days :) Kind of an odd change...getting paid to sit in front of a fire at home with some hot cocoa (made sugar free with pure organic cocoa and stevia of course :P ) and a warm blanket. Its a nice break from work, because something like this usually NEVER happens! Yes indeed. My dad and I took a walk this morning for about a half hour, and I kept teasing him that he was going to slip and fall, because his boots have nooo traction. Well, he didn't, but the amusing part is that going down the hill back to our house, I was the one who slipped and fell, right on my tailbone, which is now sore, and I slid down the hill a bit. But, its all good, it was a fun way to start the day, and the sight of all the snow is absolutely wonderful. It makes me feel peaceful and happy to be alive, and just be able to take in God's creation. It's so fluffy :) Anyway, I have no huge plans for going anywhere today...no way am I going to attempt driving on this ice! So I suppose I shall spend more time in the kitchen, re-organize my room, and perhaps curl up in front of the fire with a good book. So...I am off to accomplish some things...have a great snow day everyone! And stay safe if you must be out driving!

Well, I actually have two jobs with the pierce county library system...my regular one I have 26 hours a week (although, I work sub hours too, so its usually above 30). I am a library page...my duties primarily are shelving books, checking in books when people drop them off, answering phones if needed, assisting people wandering the shelves, etc. My other job with the library is not regular hours. I am a Senior Branch Assistant Substitute, which means I get to work the front desk, help people, check items out for people, issue new library cards...and that includes dealing with cranky people who argue about paying overdue fines :P I don't have regular hours doing that, but they call me in when someone is sick, or on vacation, or just as extra help...I get some pretty good hours though. I am hoping when a regular position for that opens I can apply and eventually get it, because its way better pay than my regular page job :) I work at the branch in South Hill, but my sub hours I do there or at other library branches in the system, wherever they need me. (and as much as some people think working at a library would be easy or boring, its totally not...I could seriously write a book about all the crazy stuff that happens!) Wow, how do you like my long explanation for a short question?! I'm sure you didn't want all those fun details :P
But anyway, its a good job, I enjoy it, I have always loved books and libraries and such and I don't know what other kind of job I would eventually do, besides running a home someday, if I need a part-time job, the library is a good place to be, so its cool.
Yup yup. anyway, hope you are enjoying the snow!

Wow you’re busier than I thought.

So your one of those people who puts all the books back that I leave on the table.
You guys are very handy because when your gang is hanging around I can just pull the books of the shelf and leave them on the ground. It saves me time and gives you a job, Its a me win you win situation what do you think?

For me, my work has consisted of mowing lawns and odd jobs in the neighborhood, fixing fences, spreading bark mulch and such, one time I installed a sprinkler system for the park next door.
It keeps me hopping in the summer but in the winter I have a lot more time. The nice thing is I get really good pay. There is one person that pays me 60$ to mow the lawn and if I’m fast I can do it in an hour and a half.

PS I would read your book.

ooohh nooo you are one of THOSE people??? The ones who pull off the books and don't put them back?? Gasp! I'm just kidding...yeah so I pretty much pick up after you haha but true, it is a win-win situation. At least you don't pour maple syrup in the outside bookdrop, stuff living breathing chickens in the bookdrop, or fill DVD cases with earwigs before returning them...(all of those have actually happened)
Maybe for more work in the winter you can clear roads for people hehe de-ice them...then I could get to work and it would be a win-win situation again :) That's cool though, sounds like your jobs keep you busy, and good pay is always a bonus :)
Well, good to know I would have a reader for my book!

Oh my gosh I cant believe that people would do that. It’s so cruel. How did you dispose of the chicken?

We killed it and ate it at a staff potluck :P No just kidding...I wouldn't do that! Actually that one didn't happen at my branch, it happened out at the buckley branch, the other one close to my house. So I don't know what they did with it. Makes sense it was that branch though...some young country prankster probably thought it would be funny. I have opened DVD cases though and had about ten earwigs fall in my lap...lets just say I was the entertainment for the day...I was quite the spectacle :P

I was going to ask if you ate the earwigs for thanksgiving to, but then I thought that you might get mad at me so I'm not going to say that.

hahahaha...wow. (you did just say it...) I'm not mad though...or should I say I am..now its my turn to forgive you! haha, just kidding...
